Newt’s Campaign Staff Quits

Newt Gingrich’s entire staff essentially dumped him today, with most of his top aides quitting his presidential campaign. Campaign manager Rob Johnson, spokesman Rick Tyler, and other key consultants who have worked with Gingrich for years reportedly disagreed with the former House speaker’s haphazard approach to his campaign, which has been a disaster since he offended the entire right-wing base last month by referring to Rep. Paul Ryan’s plan to privatize Medicare as “right-wing social engineering.” He does not seem to be in a hurry to resuscitate his chances at snagging the Republican presidential nomination: he is reportedly on vacation with his wife in the Mediterranean.
